Well, I hope you are on your way to memorizing God's Word in 2009.

Memorization Tip: Print the memory verse on a 3x5 card so you can carry it with you and work on it through out the day like when you are standing in line at Costco or Foodland. Just don't do this while you are driving!

This Week’s Fighter Verse

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

This Week’s Passage

As we begin this effort together, I think it will be valuable to begin by committing to memory some passages that are prayers to God. These are Scriptures you can use as you pray, simply praying them back to God as an act of worship to him. The first of these is Psalm 8, a prayer of worship or adoration, declaring the glory of God. It seemed to strike the right balance between applicability and length. We will start slowly, by memorizing this through the month of January, 2009. You can proceed through it at whatever pace fits you—just target January 31 as a completion date. Next week I’ll begin providing help and advice on memorizing passages like this one.

1 O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth,Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infantsYou have ordained strength,Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,

4 What is man that You are mindful of him,And the son of man that You visit him?

5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels,And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,

7 All sheep and oxen—Even the beasts of the field,

8 The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.

9 O LORD, our Lord,How excellent is Your name in all the earth! Psalm 8

God bless you as you hide his Word in your heart.
